Trancas y Barrancas

Trancas y Barrancas are two hand-puppet ants that appear on El Hormiguero ("The Anthill"). This is a Spanish television program with a live audience focusing on comedy, “science”, and politics that airs on Cuatro. It is hosted and produced by screenwriter Pablo Motos. Cuatro signed an agreement with YouTube that allows clips from Cuatro programs, including El Hormiguero, to be showcased on the site.

The term trancas y barrancas means to achieve a goal with great difficulty. Sort of like:

  • through fire and water
  • against wind and sea
  • by fits and starts
  • through thick and thin
  • by ups and downs
  • through hell and high water.

You get the idea…

So one of the things the ants do is a rap. They also do song parodies. Here are some of the lyrics from a recent “song”:

Soy tus mocos. Soy tu caspa.
Tu eres mosca. Soy tu caca.

And translated…

I am your snot. I am your dandruff.
You are a fly. I am your shit.

Sorry, it doesn’t rhyme in English. I will be posting more about El Hormiguero.
