|Paying a bill…

I received a factura or bill from gasNatural that didn’t indicate that it would be automatically paid from my “La Caixa” savings account. I noticed that at the bottom of the factura there was a detachable stub and bar-code. Also, there was no envelope included in order to mail a check, as is customary in the US.
I went to an office for the utility company and they told me that I had to pay the bill at my bank, which I was a little surprised. Fortunately there was a “La Caixa” branch on the corner.
So I went to the bank and waited my turn for a cajero or teller and explained that I wanted to pay the bill. He told me that I needed to use the ATM and that he would show me how. It turns out that not only do the ATM machines have a keyboard, they also have a bar-code reader.
So by selecting on the touch screen that you want to pay a bill, tax, or fine you are then prompted to scan the bar-code. After being scanned, up pops a description of the bill and the amount and whether you want to pay it. Afterwards it asks if you want to have similar bills automatically paid from your account. A receipt automatically gets printed for your records.
Presumably I can do the same sort of bill paying on-line as well.
