|My first Caganers

I went to Plaça de la Catedral (Barcelona Cathedral Plaza) today where they were having the Fira de Santa Llúcia (Saint Lucia street fair) There are literally a hundred different booths selling various holiday decorations.
I was surprised to see a lot of mistletoe with waxy white berries. It is the custom here, like in the US, that any people who meet under a hanging of mistletoe are obliged to kiss. But I didn’t buy any mistletoe, I was searching for different quarry.
And I found them, hundreds of them in fact. Nearly every stall that had nativity figures had caganers. Many are in traditional form, but of course there were lots of “celebrity” caganers to be found too. Here is one of them, a Papá Noel (aka Santa Claus.)
Notice how his cap became more like the traditional Catalan barretina and he is smoking a pipe.
And how could I pass up a Bush caganer?
He's got the whole world in his hand while he is taking a dump.
I have some more Catalan Christmas tales to tell as well...
