On my way home from Happy Hour at Átame, I saw two young men crossing Gran Via at Plaça Universitat. What attracted my attention was the white dress shirts, ties, and short haircuts reminiscent of the ‘50s in the US. While we were waiting for the light to change, I asked if there were Mormons. And they said “Yes”. So I asked them why they were in a country with 2,000 years of Catholic history. Turns out they were “on mission” from Sacramento. Our entire conversation was in castellano.
The only other self-identified Mormon that I have encountered here was a bartender in one of the local ambientes. He didn’t seem to be very strict about his religion.
I’m not sure how popular the Book of Mormon is here with its emphasis on pre-Columbian history which has not been substantiated.
