In yesterday’s Barcelona edition of the free newspaper ADN, the front page headline read Éstas son seis de las promesas de Hereu. Among the six promises the mayor of Barcelona made are two that interest me:
- Acceso libre y gratuito a la red en todos los barrios.
- Ampliación del servicio nocturna del Metro.
With free Net access in all neighborhoods in Barcelona, I won’t have to buy an expensive cup of café con leche at Starbucks in order surf with my laptop. And expansion of night-time Metro service will mean fewer taxi rides to my NitBus stop.
It looks like the socialists will form a pact with ERC and ICV-EUiA to govern Barcelona. All three parties are rojo or left-wing.
ADN had a full-page ad showing the front pages of their various editions with the banner Un país plural y un ADN diverso. Plural and diverse are two terms often used to describe Spain here.
