|What, another festivo?

This morning I started out on my bike ride before nine. It seemed that there was a lot less traffic than usual on Nacional II. When I got to the paseo marítimo, there were more walkers, joggers, runners and cyclists than cars on the road. I thought to myself, “is today some sort of festivo?”
Sure enough, today is Asunción de la Virgen. I decided to send myself reminders from my calendar for days like these. Many of the holidays here are religious (or pagan) in origin, but that doesn’t mean people go to church. They are more likely to go to the beach instead.
When I get to Punto BCN this evening, it will be interesting to see if today is a “big enough” holiday for them to cancel the usual Happy Hour. In that case, I´ll just have one beer instead of two tonight.
