[My Location |El Masnou (Barcelona) España]
[My Mood |chipperchipper]

Today (6th of January) is the day of the Magi, Three Wise Men, Three Kings or Kings from the East. Here they are called los Reyes Magos or los Magos de Oriente. Today is also referred to as the day of Epiphany, the last of the twelve days of Christmas.

The three kings bring gifts on the night before Epiphany. In Spain, each one of the kings represents a different continent: Europe (Gaspar), Asia (Melchor) and Africa (Baltasar). Normally the Magi come from the Orient on their camels to visit houses; much like Santa Claus with his reindeer. But here in El Masnou they arrive by boat at the sports marina across the street from where I live.

Spanish cities organize cabalgatas in the evening, in which the kings and their servants parade and throw hard candy to the onlookers. El Masnou had a cavalcade that wound through the streets of town. I didn’t attend. I have more than enough turrones sitting around the house, gracias.

Carbón de Reyes
Chocolate "coal" from The Three Kings, if you have been bad.
Según la tradición, los que se portan mal reciben carbón dulce.
Sorry that they are still wrapped, they have yet to be “gifted”.

Moneda de Reyes
Chocolate "money" from The Three Kings. If you have been good.
If you have been real good, they look like real money™. (1 € = $1.35 USD)
When I was a child, my family called these Hanukkah gelt.

So which will it be for you?
